The damage caused by Formosan termites can amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars in terms of repairs and treatments. These termites are can add up to $300 million annually just for the termite damage and treatment alone. It is sometimes so hard to imagine that one that is so minute can inflict this kind of damage to a building or wooden structure. That is why homeowners and even the government consider it a serious business when it comes to fighting and getting rid of the Formosan termites. Formosan termites in Florida are the state’s one big headache. It is considered as one of the top problems by the homeowners of Florida aside from hurricanes and floods.

In Florida, a number of counties are already infested with Formosan termites. The time when the Formosan termites are in great number is usually during the period of April to July. The type of weather they thrive in is warm and humid.

Formosan Termites Treatment

When we think of termites, we think we want to act immediately to stop the spread of these pests. But one has to be cautious when dealing with termites. Termite control is a science that has to be followed methodically. If one mistake happens then the whole termite treatment may be in jeopardy. There are two kind of available Formosan subterranean treatment that one can use to effectively get rid of them.

The first one is soil termiticides. This kind of treatment can be applied for pre-treatment and post construction. The first part or the pre-treatment happens when you treat the soil with liquid termiticides that create the chemical barrier beneath the structure. Ideally this kind of protection lasts for 5 to 7 years. For the post construction treatment, there are three ways to do it. The rodding, drilling or trenching are ways you can use when the structure has already been built.

Bait system is an alternative to termiticides. This means that you place bait stations in the different parts of the property. Each station would contain pieces of wood that has to be checked regularly for sign of the Formosan termties. If there are termites found, then the wood would be replaced by the bait. The idea for the bait is to kill the termites in large numbers, the poison may be ingested by a few termites but it can be spread to the other termites. This process may be a bit slower but it can also ensure the death of the Formosan termites.
